Meet AEW's undefeated Double or Nothing stars
These four wrestlers have represented AEW very well over the last three years.
AEW returns to pay-per-view with its marquee Double or Nothing event in Las Vegas this Sunday. The card is loaded with 50 different wrestlers slated to compete across 13 matches.
The company may be young, but their talent have made history in a variety of ways. Four individuals, in particular, are undefeated at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Let’s meet these elite wrestlers.
Britt Baker (2-0)
Britt Baker won AEW’s first women’s match ever in 2019 by outlasting the likes of Brandi Rhodes, Nyla Rose, and Awesome Kong. An injury forced her to miss a scheduled match against Kris Statlander in 2020, but the good doctor made up for it in 2021 when she defeated Hikaru Shida to capture her first world title.
Now, she will compete in the first Owen Hart Foundation tournament finals against Ruby Soho. These two are far from strangers after clashing in a historic Dynamite main event last fall, in which Baker emerged victorious with her title reign in tact.
Does Baker continue her legacy here, or will she be knocked down a peg by Soho’s momentum?
The Young Bucks (3-0)
Matt and Nick Jackson are at the heart of AEW’s tag team history. Not only are they EVP’s of the company, but they defended the AAA World Tag Team Championship in 2019 in a marquee match against The Lucha Bros, competed in and won 2020’s Stadium Stampede main event, and defended the AEW tag titles last year against Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston.
This time around, The Young Bucks will go up against The Hardys in a battle of generations. This feud spans the last decade with their encounter taking place at ROH Supercard of Honor 2017 right before Matt and Jeff returned to WWE at WrestleMania 33.
Now reunited under the All Elite banner, the Hardy brothers look to prove themselves against AEW’s golden team. Historically speaking, the Hardys do have more wins over the Bucks across various companies. Will The Young Bucks be able to keep their Double or Nothing streak going?
Hangman Page (3-0)
Hangman Page looked to be one of AEW’s biggest rising stars upon launching in 2019. That stardom was elevated at the first Double or Nothing event when he outlasted 20 other competitors to win the first Casino Battle Royale, which earned him a spot in the very first AEW World Championship match later that year.
Despite coming up short in capturing the gold, Hangman continued his journey by taking part in 2020’s main event where he was on the winning end of the first Stadium Stampede match alongside The Elite. And in 2021, he scored a key singles victory over the imposing Brian Cage.
Hangman’s trek now brings him to this year’s main event as he will defend the AEW World Championship against none other than CM Punk. Adam Page has walked out of every Double or Nothing event with a win, while Punk has yet to lose an AEW pay-per-view match over the last year.
This is notably Punk’s first world title match in all of pro wrestling since February 2013, which may or may not bode well for AEW’s resident cowboy.
Honorable mention: Serena Deeb (1-0)
Serena Deeb walks into this year’s event to compete in the biggest match of her career against AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa. Last year, though, she kicked the show off by defending the NWA Women’s World Championship against Riho in a physical contest that showcased Deeb’s worthiness of being a champion. Will history repeat itself on Sunday when Deeb, who took the NWA title from Rosa in 2020, competes for the grandest prize of AEW’s women’s division?
Losing streaks
On the flip side, AEW stars (who have competed on a previous card) looking to score their first Double or Nothing win include Luchasaurus (0-2), Penta Oscuro (0-2), Rey Fenix (0-1), PAC (0-1), Wardlow (0-1), Powerhouse Hobbs (0-1), Eddie Kingston (0-1), and Ethan Page (0-1).
